Yesterday was a marathon. We had an afternoon wedding in Boston, so spent Saturday night heading to New York, Sunday morning driving to Boston, and then all the way back to Philadelphia (6+ hours) post-festivites so hubs could make it to the hospital bright and early this morning. Thankfully the Yankees were playing the Red Sox on the way home so he was transfixed and I got a little shuteye without feeling guilty.

What to wear to an afternoon summer wedding while too pregnant to fit into the usual wedding fare and not pregnant enough for maternity? Enter the elastic-waist dress, my new best friend. I spent a good 30 minutes on Friday trying on various items from my closet and ascertaining what use, if any, they would have over the next few months, and my collection of elastic-waist dresses proved to be the versatility champs. Pre-pregnancy, I loved the way they skimmed over my ample chest and nipped in at the waist. Now, I'm loving the expandable waistline and forgiving cut of the skirt. No, I can't see myself wearing this dress at 9 months, but for now, it works. Doesn't hurt that the color is so bright and punchy, either. Between the red/orange/silver shoes, the loud clutch and my bright blue and purple earrings, I might have gone a bit overboard, but was comforted when I caught sight of the matching sunset somewhere over Connecticut on the drive home:
What do you wear to summer not-too-formal events?

I also had an elastic waist dress during this period for this purpose. They are great and I could wear mine until I was very big and it still looked good so it was a good buy. Unfortunately it does not work while nursing so it will have to lay in the closet until I have finished doing that. I will so wear it again though, I love it.
That's a beautiful dress! Elastic is a pregnant lass's best friend! ;)
You look lovely, I'm glad you were able to make it work :)
