Last night, we had a costume party at the museum. I love a good opportunity to dress up, and this was no exception. Other than staying at work until 12:20, it was a blast! Don't worry, I took the day off today to recuperate.
* dress- borrowed from coworker with amazing vintage closet * "slip" underneath-- H&M black jersey dress* bobbed wig-- random beauty supply store near Herald Square * lace headband-- Lohemann's * pearls-- thrifted, gifted by great-uncle * cameo necklace-- F21 * moxie-- all mine *
Like a good historian, I carefully researched makeup trends of the '20s. I went full-on flapper, with Clara Bow lips , bright pink cheeks and heavy kohl'd eyes. More than the dress or the wig, I think the makeup was the most transformative part of the outfit.
Do you go all out for costume-required occasions? What was your best costumed look?

This is absolutely AWESOME! I'm writing about the 20s right now, so seeing your pics and imagining that party sort of brought part of it to life in a new way for me. So thank you for that! But I think it's so cool that you went full on 20s, didn't shy away from it. That headband is the perfect touch (and is pretty darned cool for any decade).
Very nice! I love the headband!
I love costume parties but rarely get to go to any :-( The last one I went to I dressed like Madame X and wanted to carry a frame around with me but I had to work the event so I couldn't do the frame. No one got it anyways...
Oh my goodness, that costume perfect! You look like a time machine picked you up and dropped you off in 2011. And yes, the makeup totally made the outfit.
North Meets South
Absolutely amazing. And I agree -- the makeup truly does transport you back in time.
I love yout makeup! I have a gig like that too, but I've never gone all out with the face like that. it looks great!
my best ever costume was this - they're characters from a comedy show:

WoW! haha you totally don't look like your pretty self Nina! =D great costume, I've dressed up for Reading night at school, my fave's were Emily Elizabeth from CLifford (my principal was Clifford) and last year's Chato from Chato's Kitchen. =D
You look fabulous!! I attended a 20's party a couple of years ago and I rented a dress for the occasion. My makeup and hair wasn't nearly as awesome as yours, but it was such a great night!
this is perfect! i agree that your finishing touches with the makeup totally make the costume! kudos, kudos... :)
It's AMAZING. Especially your makeup. I wish my research led to such fun results :D
