Slight Redux

In which my outfit is similar to, but not the same as, what I wore last night.

Today I am wearing:
-white tank, H&M
-floral shirt, F21
-yellow sweater, J. Crew
-black pencil skirt, American Apparel
-black tights
-blue/grey boots, vintage
-silver locket, UO
-fuschia fuzzy beret, H&M

Today at work we had a Jewish Earth Day celebration, and the staff wore florals to bring some spring cheer on a day when the temperature outside was 7 degrees. I pulled a standard summer shirt/winter sweater combo, using almost the same colors as last night. Love the sweet ruffles on this shirt, and how they draped over the sweater.

I managed to keep toasty with a scarf, extra pair of socks and silk thermals underneath the tights. Layering is a beautiful thing.

And finally, the flowers we all got to take home from the festival.  The colors worked remarkably well with both my outfit and apartment!

Dijon Mustard

After a long day of napping instead of learning new words for the GRE, I finally got dressed. A new hat and shoes are always good motivators to get ready to face the world.
Today I am wearing:
-white henley, Stephanie B
-yellow cardi, Paper Denim & Cloth
-black pencil skirt, American Apparel
-black tights
-argyle shoes, Chinese Laundry
-patterned scarf, vintage
-mustard wool beret, Target

This outfit was built around the shoes, which I bought on Friday. I promised hubs that I'd hold out until February, but these were on major sale, purchased for only $17 (including tax!) And it will be Feb. on Monday, so I didn't feel too bad about cheating. The hat was another steal, purchased for only $3.24. I have it in black, and was so excited to see it in this fantastic mustard color for less than the original! I scooped it up immediately.

Love the scarf, with its fun pattern and bright colors. One day I'll do a post on buying/wearing vintage scarves, since I have probably close to 60 and wear them constantly. The only thing I can't help with is storage, since I haven't quite figured that one out yet. Anyone have a better idea than keeping them in a plastic storage box? Let me know.

Twists and Turns

Two scarves and a yummy sweater are perfect Friday attire for errands.

Today I am wearing:
-white tee, Rebecca Beeson
-creme swing sweater, Press
-jean skirt, Zara
-navy tights
-blue/grey boots, vintage
-green scarf, H&M
-tan patterned scarf, dollar store in Chinatown

This is my first attempt at using two scarves twisted together, and I really like it. The green is soft and warm, and the tan adds pattern and a metallic element to the outfit. Thanks to S. from academichic for the idea!

Sadly, the sun kept going in and out during picture time so my bottom half looks supremely dark in the whole body shots. Hopefully this angle shows some differentiation between skirt/tights/boots (and the kicking duvet in the extra room!)

5 Points

Today started off snowy, but in mid-afternoon there was a spot of glorious sunshine! I took a walk to Chatham Square and had a little photoshoot outside. It was almost warm enough not to freeze without my coat for those 3 minutes.

Today I am wearing:
-black dress, label illegible
-black skirt (underneath. the dress looked a bit too short today. not sure how that randomly happens), Velvet
-purple high-necked button-down, H&M
-light yellow cardi, Lux (UO)
-black tights
-brown boots, Studio Polini
-purple studded belt, Calvin Klein
-metallic scarf, gift from sister
-black fuzzy hat, H&M

(my 3x self-timer caught this bus in motion!)

Today's outfit consisted of a few light layers, which is my recently-discovered trick to staying warm without adding a huge amount of bulk. Though I do love me some bulky sweaters... just not today.  I actually began the day wearing a slightly modified version of what you see here, before I realized that boots were a better idea:

(metallic leopard t-straps, Richard Taylor)
This gives a better sense of what the shirt actually looks like, since I styled the scarf differently in the version I ended up wearing and blocked the neckline. This is such a fun scarf to wear- I love the metallic sheen and the bright colors.

After seeing both options, which version of today's outfit do you prefer?

Urban Turban

And on the continuing tour of my apartment, today's photoshoot took place in the extra bedroom/hub's study. The light in this room is so lovely in the morning, I'm not sure why I haven't taken shots here before... this could become a favorite location.

Today I am wearing:
-white tunic, Lux (UO)
-brown pencil skirt, Banana Republic
-bronze tights, Cynthia Rowley
-silver ruffle flats, Steve Madden
-beaded necklace, hub's grandmother
-red wool turban, vintage

Stop the presses! When did I get bangs?
I'll be honest with you: I didn't. These are a pair of fake bangs I ordered on ebay a while ago for about 8 dollars. I've been contemplating wearing them for a while, and finally took the plunge today. I paired them with this red wool turban purchased on etsy from Red Lips Vintage . When it arrived, it was too big, and I put it in the back of my hat box for further investigation. A few nights ago, I decided to try my hand at shrinking it (rather than practice for the looming GRE, as I should have.) After soaking in hot water and detergent and agitating a whole bunch, I dried it on the radiator. When I tried it on, it fit perfectly! Thank you wool for being so flexible.

The rest of the outfit is pretty simple. I tucked the tunic into the skirt for my favorite combo, blousy and streamlined. And of course, I needed my hit of shine, so the tights and shoes came into play.

Striped Again

Didn't realize until I just went to Picasa that I'm striping it up so far this week. This time, it feels like an homage to Paris in the '60s.

Today I am wearing:
-striped tank, H&M
-million button cardi
-black jersey skirt, James Perse
-grey sweater tights, Anne Klein
-black patent peep-toes, Lulu Guiness
-black patent belt, H&M
-patterned turquoise scarf, vintage
-black wool beret, Target

I was drawn to this bright turquoise tank this morning, and wanted to somehow make it work for work. I paired it with the soft jersey skirt, which I hiked up from its regular spot on my hips up to my natural waist and belted so it would stay put. Threw on the cardigan for coverage and warmth and the scarf for some pattern mixing and voila! Parisienne parfait!

A Wrinkle in Time

A rainy, grey day and forgetting to set my alarm yielded this outfit.

Today I am wearing:
-white tee, Rebecca Beeson
-navy skirt, DKNY
-grey cardigan, Express
-silver tights, Me Moi
-rainboots, Medici
-DIY'd necklace
-silver locket necklace
-diamond bezel necklace
-grey and pink cap

I promise this skirt isn't as wrinkled as it looks. I actually took it out from the cleaners' bag this morning! Somehow the combination of rain and crinkling while I sat at my desk made it slightly wrinkled, but with the sheen of the fabric the skirt photographed so awfully, I almost didn't post these! Forgive me, Mom.

Doesn't this color look straight out of a 1952 Kitchenaid catalog? I'm loving it! This is Mint Candy by Essie.
