I wore this outfit this past week on a campus visit. After traveling for 3 hours by train, I had 3 meetings with professors, toured several libraries and met with an incredibly gracious grad student who took me around campus and gave me the lowdown on life there. My sartorial requirements included looking professional but not stuffy, as the meetings are rather informal, and something that would travel well. Somehow, no matter the equation, the solution always seems to be a sweaterdress.
* blue Target sweaterdress * brown Studio Polini boots *
* grey chevron tights * vintage lace earrings *
Last time I wore this dress, I mused on ways to mix it up, but I err on the side of simple during these campus trips. While I plan on whipping out my often-bolder style during grad school, I want my proposed project to speak for itself, rather than my brightly colored tights. I couldn't resist the bit of pattern in the tights and earrings, but kept these touches subtle.
What do you wear to interviews? How do you balance personal style with more conservative requirements?

such a gorgeous color on you.
I actually like its simplicity and it looks wonderful on you.
I'm lucky enough not to have to tone things down to a more conservative level, even for interviews.....but I guess my trick would be expressing my personal style through shoes and accessories.
I have that same dress! Blogged it yesterday from last week and wore it yesterday too! I love how you styled it here.
My answer to your question is that it depends on the type of interview. When interviewing for faculty positions at conferences and on campuses, I've gone the suit route with a more colorful shell and a few smaller but interesting accessories.
Love that dress! What a beautiful color, and a bargain too!
Academichic recently did a series of posts about what to wear to interviews. Have you seen it?
Also: that dress is knock-em outta the park fantastic.
I was about to say that I saw La Historiadora De Moda rock this yesterday, but she beat me to the punch. You both did a great job styling it.

You look professional and absolutely lovely!
I love the little details about this outfit. The detail in the earrings and tights are subtle but, really spice up the outfit when you put it all together!
