When you haven't purchased clothing in over 10 months, you start doing some crazy things, like testing out how many of your skirts might work as tops. Apparently, the answer is many. I am excited for my year-long ban to reach a close, but am grateful for the creativity it has inspired, like this outfit.

I finally wore the last of my Eugenia Kim for Target purchases yesterday, the black fedora. I've tried to work it into ensembles before, but it never quite fit. When I tried on this combination, I knew it would be the perfect match-- and my feelings were seconded by a very stylish man waiting at my subway stop. Nothing like a compliment from a perfect stranger to make you feel warm and fuzzy inside. I've actually decided that the next time I see someone wearing something fantastic, instead of keeping it inside I will tell them. Why not spread the love?
As you can see, I punched up the outfit with the bright flowered pin and electric pink lips. This is Stila's lip enamel lipgloss in Giggle (mine is a screw-off brush rather than the click attached brush, which I greatly prefer. I find that it is hard to gauge how many clicks yield the correct amount of gloss with my other Stila lippies.) Though I usually am pretty minimalist when it comes to makeup, I love the impact of a great bold lip sometimes.

And I've started to do that, too, in real life - complimenting strangers on an outfit or a perfect clothing item or accessory. It makes me feel good about myself, too, and I know how I feel when I'm complimented randomly.
